These simple and elegant cufflinks are inscribed with geometric, kufic, Arabic calligraphy that reads, “The Journey.” Each is a square in reference to the cubic shape of the Ka’aba and it is rendered in silver and plated with 24 carat gold, in reference to the gold thread used to embroider verses from the Qu’ran on the kiswah, or sacred cloth covering of the Ka’aba.
Nowadays, gold is mined all over the world, but in the old days, much of it was mined from what is now Saudi Arabia. Gold often symbolizes power, strength, wealth, warmth, happiness, love, hope, optimism, intelligence, justice, balance, perfection, and divinity.
